Brain Saunders
We met with Brian at El Retiro Gallery one Friday morning. His art work varies in style and is beautifully imaginative.
“I started Painting in 1990 after having a triple heart by pass at 39. Whilst off sick I was restricted in what I was allowed to do, no gardening, mowing the lawn or DIY. So I started painting in oils. I had previously watched Nancy Kominsky on the TV, so I bought her book and gave it a go. The painting stopped once I went back to work but that was one of the things I wanted to take up again once I came here, to Spain in Sept 2008. I belong to a painting class at Cortijo Cabrera with Debbie Redding. We all have different styles and are at varying stages from complete beginners to a published illustrator. I was in construction for 40 years and tend to see things in a lot of detail as I am used to plans. Trying to paint a representation is a challenge for me.”
